Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

GEP is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join its platform engineering team in Kuala Lumpur. You will own the design and delivery of core API services that power the GEP SMART™ procurement platform used by Fortune 500 companies globally.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and maintain high-availability backend services in Go and Python
• Lead architecture reviews and set engineering standards for the backend guild
• Collaborate with product and data teams to deliver scalable features
• Drive performance optimisation across APIs serving millions of transactions
• Mentor mid-level engineers and contribute to hiring decisions

What we're looking for

• 6+ years of backend engineering experience with production systems
• Strong command of Go, Python, or Rust; open to learning across the stack
• Experience with Kubernetes, gRPC, PostgreSQL, and distributed tracing
• Clear communicator who can translate technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders
• Experience in regulated or enterprise SaaS environments preferred
