Junior Software Engineer

Hunt & Gather is seeking a Junior Software Engineer to join our remote team and contribute to building scalable web applications. You'll work alongside experienced developers, shipping features end-to-end while deepening your expertise in Rails and modern JavaScript. This role offers hands-on experience with production systems and mentorship to accelerate your growth as an engineer.

What you'll do

• Develop and maintain backend services using Ruby on Rails, writing clean, testable code that meets performance standards
• Build and enhance front-end features with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS across responsive user interfaces
• Collaborate with product and design teams to translate requirements into technical implementations
• Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and incorporate feedback from senior engineers
• Debug production issues and implement fixes, learning troubleshooting patterns from experienced team members
• Contribute to documentation and knowledge-sharing initiatives to support team development

What we're looking for

• 1–3 years of professional software development experience
• Strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails for backend development
• Solid JavaScript skills for front-end development and DOM manipulation
• Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and responsive design principles
• Experience with version control systems (Git) and collaborative workflows
• Understanding of relational databases and SQL fundamentals
• Ability to write and understand unit tests and integration tests
• Strong problem-solving mindset and attention to detail
