Filmmaker

Matchhat seeks an experienced Filmmaker to lead creative visual storytelling across documentary, commercial, and branded content projects. You will conceptualize, direct, and execute high-impact productions from pre-production planning through final delivery, collaborating with creative teams and clients to bring compelling narratives to life.

What you'll do

• Direct and oversee full production cycles including pre-production research, shot planning, on-set direction, and post-production supervision
• Develop creative concepts and visual treatments that align with project briefs and client objectives
• Manage camera operations, lighting, sound, and production logistics across location and studio shoots
• Collaborate with editors, colorists, and sound designers to refine raw footage into polished final deliverables
• Communicate project vision and progress to clients and internal stakeholders throughout production
• Scout locations, secure permits, and coordinate crew and equipment rentals as needed
• Stay current with emerging filmmaking techniques, equipment, and industry trends

What we're looking for

• 5+ years of professional filmmaking experience with a strong portfolio demonstrating technical mastery and creative vision
• Fluent in both Japanese and English (written and spoken)
• Proficiency with industry-standard video equipment and software (Adobe Creative Suite, DaVinci Resolve, or equivalent)
• Solid understanding of cinematography, color grading, sound design, and post-production workflows
• Experience managing budgets, timelines, and cross-functional teams on multiple simultaneous projects
• Strong storytelling ability with the capacity to adapt tone and style across documentary, commercial, and branded content
• Ability to work independently and take creative direction while also bringing original ideas to projects
